Reminders of your Purpose

Updated: Jul 21, 2023

My freshman year of college was a really difficult year. For the first time I was deeply filled with insecurities, comparison, and questioning who I was and my purpose within the Lord. Skip to sophomore year, I have learned who I am and how to remain grounded and secure in that person. And... here I am again... questioning. The last few days I've been stuck in this hole of wondering why I don't fit in a friend group and why I feel like people don't want to be friends with me or live with me or "what's wrong with me" - basically I've spent a few days being a normal nineteen year old girl.

This morning though, I had coffee with a girl who is interviewing for something I did my freshman year and I got to encourage and challenge and speak life into her and her desires within her four years at Auburn.

And I got a text from a friend that I talked to last night, about how the depth of my words meant so much to her.

And I got to reaffirm high school girls who received some challenging feedback and remind them of their worth while helping them see the value of the advice they were given.

When we are reminded of our purpose, our mindset changes, the way we see ourselves changes, the things we choose to say to ourself changes. What makes you feel purposeful? intentional? on fire for who you are and the mission the Lord gave you? I believe every person has a mission statement within their relationship with the Lord. A common one: To know Him and make Him known, for example. One of my favorites: My utmost for His highest (haha a wink at my college instagram bio). As on the cover page of this website, my desire is to make every person that leaves my company feel invited, valued, important. What's you mission? What's your desire? If you only accomplished one thing in life and you were content in that, what would it be?

Write this out. Make it clear on tablets according to Habakuk. Create a list of things you can do to help remind you of this purpose. Writing letters to people, complimenting others, journaling, getting lunch with a friend, reading a book, accomplishing goals or a to-do list. I'm not saying to compliment your friend just to satisfy your need of being reminded of your purpose, but there is a sweet feeling like no other when you speak into the glory of another person, and that feeling, is a fulfillment of your purpose. Learn to recognize it. Find your purpose. Serve those around you with the gifts you have been given, and you'll remain secure and confident in who the Lord called you to be.

Here to remind you of your purpose...

Your friend,

Mary-Coker
